Local SEO in Belgrade: How to Get Found When People Search

Local SEO works differently from regular SEO. Learn how to optimise your Google Business Profile, NAP consistency, local keywords and reviews to rank in Belgrade's map pack.

If your business is in Belgrade and people can't find you when they search for "plumber Vračar" or "dentist Novi Beograd" · you're losing customers every single day who walk right past your door. Local SEO is not the same as regular SEO. Google looks at different signals, different results appear, and you need a different strategy. This guide covers everything you need to do to get found in Belgrade.

The most important concept: Google does not read "near me" literally. Google uses the user's location to serve city-level results · which is why it matters that you optimise for the city itself, not for the phrase "near me".

What Is the "Map Pack" and Why It Matters

When someone searches for a local service, Google shows three businesses in a box with a map at the top of the results. That is the map pack (also called the local pack). 70–85% of clicks on local searches go to those three businesses. If you are not there · you are invisible, even if your website ranks organically in second place.

The goal of local SEO is to get into that top 3 for queries that bring you customers. This is achieved through a combination of three things:

  • An optimised Google Business Profile (GBP)
  • NAP consistency across all platforms (Name, Address, Phone)
  • A website that clearly tells Google: this is a business in Belgrade that does X

1. Google Business Profile · the Heart of Local SEO

Without a GBP you cannot enter the map pack. Full stop. If you already have one · audit it; if you don't · you can set one up in an hour. We already have a creation guide published; here we look at what your GBP must have in order to rank:

Services on Your GBP Must Match Your Website

If your website says "electronic repair service for home appliances" but your GBP says "electronics repair", Google sees a mismatch and you lose ranking points. Every service you offer must exist in both places, worded identically. If you still need to set up your GBP, see the creation guide.

Post Every Week

GBP posts are an underused ranking signal. One post per week · something brief about a new service, a seasonal discount, or a completed job. This is not Instagram; you do not need to be inspirational · just consistent.

Photos and Video: 100+

There is a direct correlation between the number of photos on a GBP and the number of calls a business receives. Target: 100+ photos and 5+ videos. On-site shots, the team at work, before-and-after project photos, interior photographs if you have a premises. No stock photos · Google recognises them.

2. NAP Consistency · the Silent Killer

NAP = Name, Address, Phone. Your business name, address and phone number must be identical everywhere you appear online: website, GBP, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, yellow pages, every directory.

If your website lists "Petrović doo", Facebook shows "Petrovic d.o.o.", and GBP reads "PETROVIĆ DOO" · Google does not know whether these are one business or three separate ones. NAP inconsistency kills local rankings faster than anything else.

Practical audit: run a Google search for your business name. Open every result · website, GBP, social profiles, directories · and write down exactly how your name and address appear on each one. Anything that differs · fix it today.

3. A Website That Tells Google "This Business Is in Belgrade"

Your website must explicitly include "Belgrade" (and relevant sub-locations · municipalities, neighbourhoods) in the right places:

  • Title tag on every page: 'AC Repair Vračar | Company Name'
  • H1 on the homepage and service pages: 'Air Conditioning Repair in Belgrade'
  • Meta description: 'AC service and installation in Belgrade · same-day call-out...'
  • URL slug: /ac-repair-belgrade, not /services-1
  • Footer: full business name + address + phone (identical to GBP NAP)
  • Embedded Google Maps with a pin on your exact location

If you cover multiple municipalities (e.g. Vračar, Voždovac, Zvezdara) · create a separate page for each key location where you plan to rank. Do NOT copy the same page and just swap the municipality name · Google reads that as thin content and penalises you. Each location page must have specific content for that area (local examples, street names, common problems).

4. Reviews · Freshness and Responses Matter More Than Volume

Google values a business with 50 reviews and consistent owner responses more than one with 200 reviews and no replies at all. ( The full guide to collecting reviews is in a separate post, but here are the three ground rules:)

  • Ask every satisfied client for a review · at the moment the job is done, not afterwards
  • Reply to every review · positive ones (thank them) and negative ones (calmly, publicly, with a resolution)
  • Target: at least 1 new review every two weeks
A fresh review (less than 2 weeks old) is worth 3× more to Google than one from a year ago. A steady stream of reviews is more important than a one-time burst.

5. Citations · List Your Business in Local Directories

A citation is any mention of your name + address + phone number online · even when there is no link. Google uses citations to confirm that a business exists. Key places for Serbia:

  • Yellow Pages (zuti.rs)
  • Najjeftinije.com / business directories
  • Facebook business page
  • Instagram bio with your address
  • LinkedIn company page
  • PKS (Chamber of Commerce) directory
  • Industry-specific directories (e.g. mjau.rs for veterinary clinics)

What Does Not Work (Waste of Time)

  • Buying backlinks on Fiverr · in 90% of cases they come from bad neighbourhoods and will penalise you
  • Stuffing your site with text like 'best hairdresser Belgrade, hairdresser Belgrade price, cheap hairdresser Belgrade' · keyword stuffing has been detected by Google for years
  • Fake reviews from family · Google detects and removes them
  • Hidden text (white text on a white background) · automatic penalty

Backlinks still work as a ranking factor, but only legitimate ones · what still works in 2026 is covered in a dedicated guide.

Local SEO is not fast. A realistic timeframe for entering the map pack in a mid-competition sector in Belgrade is 3–6 months of consistent effort. But once you are in · you tend to stay, because local signals (NAP, reviews, time at location) are hard for competitors to overtake quickly.
